Certificate in Racial Understanding

The Africana and American Indian Studies Program and the Department of Social Work Education jointly offer a certificate of special study in Racial Understanding. The 12-unit program consists of three required courses and one related interdisciplinary elective. The certificate is designed to prepare students and practicing professionals to develop knowledge and skills necessary to understand racism and manage conflict resulting from it. The special study seeks to promote racial awareness and racial harmony, and diversity competency and cultural understanding in our multiracial and multicultural society.

Upper Division Courses Required:

 

·         AAIS 104W: Writing About American Inequality

·         AAIS 144: Race Relations

·         SWRK 136: Cultural Diversity and Oppression

Total Upper Division Units: 9 units
